5 Tips For First Time Dog Owners
Adopting a new dog is exciting! You can already imagine the activities and memories you’ll enjoy together. But before that, you must know what to prepare before bringing him at home. Here are tips on what to do especially to first time pet parent like you.
1. Choose all-natural food
Choosing the right food is a must. Puppies have different nutritional needs than adult dogs, and senior dogs have their own nutritional considerations.
2. Buy their other essentials
Aside from food, they also need feeding bowls, toys, treats, and leashes with harness/collar.
3. Give them a place to sleep
Set up a sleeping spot in advance. It’s generally best to start your dog with a confined space like a dog crate. This gives them a safe space of their own. Prepare it ahead of time, and add a cozy dog bed for them to rest on.
4. Dog-proof your home
Adopting a new dog, especially a puppy, isn’t like bringing home a baby — it’s like having a curious toddler who’s itching to sniff, claw, and nibble their way into every nook and cranny of your home.
5. Visit the vet for check-up and vaccines
No one loves your pet as much as you do. Part of that love is making sure they get the best veterinary care possible. You can help your vet deliver it when you prepare for routine checkups, know when there’s an emergency, and follow up after your pet gets care. Getting them vaccinated is also important to keep them immune from sickness.
